You're going to need to think in terms of a price starting point of around £100,000 for EQS ownership; that's for the base EQS 450+ 'AMG Line' model. If you want what is one of this car's calling cards, it's MBUX Hyperscreen which has multiple displays that merge seamlessly under one piece of glass to create a curved screen over 141cms wide, you'll need to find £7,000 more for 'AMG Line Premium' trim. Rising further in £7,000 increments are three more levels of trim, 'AMG Line Premium Plus', 'Luxury' and 'Exclusive Luxury'. That top 'Exclusive Luxury' trim offers the option of an optional 'Rear Luxury Lounge' package, which for an extra £4,000 gets you power-adjustable rear seats with massaging, rear climate control and a 'Comfort' rear armrest with an embedded tablet.
Mercedes expects that EQS customers will be audiophiles - even when it comes to the electric motor's drive note. That motor's ebb and flow can be tailored to various sound packages - 'Silent', 'Vivid Flux', 'Silver Waves' and 'Roaring Pulse', the latter designed to replicate the noise of a traditional combustion engine, which is a touch ironic.
As for the stereo, from 'AMG Line Premium' level up, the brand offers a 15-speaker, 710-watt Burmester surround sound set-up. A neat touch we really like is the automatic door opening arrangement. With the standard model, the door handles slide out of their recesses opening automatically as the driver approaches. And if you specify 'AMG Line Premium Plus' trim, users can also open the rear doors from the MBUX infotainment system.
