Our verdict on the new Mercedes-Benz EQS
As part of Mercedes’ growing line of electric EQ models, the new Mercedes-Benz EQS is on sale now. With prices starting from £102,160 (OTR) for the 'EQS 450+ AMG Line' trim, the fully electric Mercedes EQS is based on the brand’s prestige S-Class model. This will rival the likes of the Tesla Model S, but is it good enough to compete? Here’s our thoughts on the new Mercedes-Benz EQS.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Interior, Design & Features
Firstly, we like the futuristic exterior design of this electric car. The Mercedes EQS is a sleek saloon, featuring a black panel radiator grille and flush door handles. Meanwhile, inside the EQS, it’s very spacious and has a premium finish. In particular, the unique MBUX Hyperscreen (available from Q2 2022) makes it look futuristic and distinctive. Also, ambient lighting inside and high-quality materials used throughout really give this electric Mercedes a luxurious and relaxing feel. In terms of boot space, the Mercedes EQS has a generous 610-litre boot capacity. This is around 60-litres bigger than the S-Class boot. Although, it doesn’t quite match the cavernous boot of the Tesla Model S.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Range & Performance
One of the key details about the new Mercedes-Benz EQS is its epic range ability. In fact, it’s claimed that this electric car has an impressive electric range of up to 453 miles (WLTP). This is around 48 miles greater than the estimated range for the Tesla Model S Long Range version. As technology has advanced, it’s clear that this car has been built for range, which is a huge selling point to electric car drivers. This allows you to enjoy an excellent driving experience with almost no need to be concerned about electric range. Likewise, the Mercedes EQS has an excellent charging ability. Reportedly, with a 200kW max charging output (DC), it can reach 10-80% charge using public rapid charging in just 31 minutes!
As for performance, the most powerful version is the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 Night Edition priced from £157,160 (OTR). This Mercedes car has an impressive 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds thanks to its 658 HP. Also it's an all-wheel drive car with a top speed of 137 mph.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Price & Specifications
The Mercedes EQS is available in a range of trim levels, all of which come with heated seats, privacy glass, a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting. We expect the AMG Line Premium version priced from £109,160 (OTR) to prove particularly popular. Key features on this trim level includes a 360 camera, driving assistance plus, acoustic privacy glass, as well as bigger wheels and an upgraded sound system.
We feel the Mercedes-Benz EQS deserves a rating of 4.7/5 stars from GB Vehicle Leasing. There’s no denying this is an expensive electric car to buy, although you can hardly be surprised. We think the market-leading electric range, along with the advanced technology and luxury interior of the EQS, make it a highly appealing electric car. If you’re budget reaches over £100,000, then this could be an excellent electric car for you. It’s great to see that Mercedes-Benz has clearly thought about what customers require from a luxury electric car. As an alternative, the Mercedes EQC is an all-electric SUV priced from around £67,000. One full charge of the Mercedes EQC is reported to provide a decent range up to 255 miles on the WLTP cycle.
