VW Golf vs BMW 1 Series vs Ford Focus
Looking for a new family hatchback? Well, we’ve decided to review three of our favourite family hatchback cars, based on design, price, safety and much more. Which one will come out on top?
VW Golf
The new generation of the VW Golf features advanced technology and connectivity like never before! In terms of design, the Golf 8 is truly beautiful and modern. With narrow LED headlights and integrated fog lights as standard, we love the exterior look of it. In terms of the interior, we love the high-quality features, focusing on useful in-car technology and controls.
Furthermore, this car is designed for an excellent driving experience. Advanced driver assistance systems are available including Adaptive Cruise Control and Park Assist. Also, stay connected and get Breakdown Call and the Online Anti-Theft Alarm by registering for We Connect. In particular, we like the Car2X technology which warns of problems such as roadside breakdown or the end of a traffic jam. Car2X enables the car to communicate with other vehicles (which feature car2X as well) to relay information.
In addition to all of the above, this always-reliable hatchback has been awarded a 5 star Euro NCAP score which is excellent news. So with prices starting from £23,300, could this be the ideal family hatchback for you?
BMW 1 Series
This premium family car offers a superb driving experience and comfort due to its excellent build quality. The BMW 1 Series comes with a fantastic sat nav and infotainment which enhances your driving experience. Also, the 1 series provides sleek looks, spacious front space, innovative storage and a boot capacity of 380 litres. As with all BMW cars, the new 1 series has a luxury feel due to the high quality features on the interior and exterior.
As well, this car has plenty of safety equipment on offer, although it doesn’t all come as standard. Safety features such as lane departure warning and speed limit assist ensure you have a safe driving experience. Prices for the entry-level SE trim start from £23,885 (RRP), meaning this is similarly prices to the new VW Golf.
Furthermore, the 1 series is both powerful and comfortable to drive. In particular, the new BMW M135i xDrive can achieve 0-62mph in just 4.8 seconds! Meanwhile inside, it features new M Seats with Alcantara upholstery and performance optimising elements such as M135i optimised M Steering. Does this sound appealing to you?
Ford Focus
Last but definitely not least, we mention the fantastic new Ford Focus. This hatchback is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a mid-sized family car. The new Focus is the most practical version to date and is built with efficient engines. Also, the boot space is bigger than previous versions at 375 litres, which is only marginally less than the VW Golf.
In particular, we like this hatchback as it offers an excellent driving experience. The latest generation is packed with advanced features which improve the driving experience including Ford Co-Pilot360 and Driver Assist Technologies. As well, stay connected with FordPass Connect Modem which is easy to use.
The new Ford Focus is priced from £22,210 and as with all new Ford cars, it is protected by a 3 year/60,000 mile Ford Warranty. Over the years, the Focus has always been ranked highly as a family hatchback and we feel the latest generation continues to impress. What do you think of it?
