The BMW i4: Highlights & Pricing
Exciting news! As BMW continues to expand its electric line-up, details about the new BMW i4 have been revealed. With a Gran Coupe silhouette, this BMW is a new all-electric car offering excellent performance and driving range. The BMW i4 is set to arrive in the UK later this year with pricing starting from £51,905. Here we’ve decided to take a look at all the highlights on this BMW electric car, including specs, electric range and design.
Range, Charging and Performance
The BMW i4 will join the electric car market as a key rival for the Tesla Model 3. There will be two variants offered – the eDrive40 and the M50, of which the eDrive40 will be available as either Sport or M Sport trim levels. In terms of range, it’s claimed the BMW i4 eDrive40 can achieve up to 365 miles (WLTP) thanks to a powerful high-voltage battery. This figure is impressive as it marginally exceeds the maximum range of a Tesla Model 3. Meanwhile, the M50 variant has a reduced range of 313 miles which is still rather impressive. BMW also claims the BMW i4 M50 is capable of reaching 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds and has a greater top speed of 140mph. As for charging, it’s claimed the BMW i4 can achieve 10% to 80% charge in just 31 minutes when using a 200kW charging station. Alternatively, a home 7.4 kW Wallbox gets the i4 to 100% charge in 13 hours – ideal for overnight charging. That said, in just over 2 hours, a range of 62 miles is possible using a Wallbox.
Design & Features
The new BMW i4 has a striking presence due to its sporty, yet elegant looks. It’s sized similar to the BMW 3 Series and is visually similar to the latest 4 series. The exterior features a distinctive kidney grille on the front, as well as impressive lines to the rear. This BMW electric car is a spacious five-seater with generous headroom and legroom throughout. In particular, we like this BMW’s driver-oriented cockpit so you can enjoy a pleasant and comfortable driving experience.
It’s clear that BMW has used design cues from other BMW models for inside the BMW i4. However, this BMW electric car has the latest technology, such as BMW's new OS 8 infotainment system inside. As with all BMW models, the i4 has a luxury feel to it thanks to high quality materials used throughout. Also, it has a generous sized boot space of 470 litres when all seats are in place. This is bigger than the Tesla Model 3, although it slightly lags behind the BMW 3 series.
BMW i4 Price
For the entry-level BMW i4 eDrive40 Sport, you can expect pricing to start from £51,905 - around £11,000 more than the entry-level Tesla Model 3. Standard features include a reversing assist camera, sport seats, a sport leather steering wheel, plus LED headlights and rear lights. However, if you would prefer the higher-spec eDrive 40 M Sport with more aggressive bodykit, then the price is from £53,405. For the ultimate performance car, the BMW i4 M50 price starts at £63,905 – around £10,000 less than the BMW M3 Competition. The M50 variant comes with powerful dual-electric motors and has a choice of M50-exclusive 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. Of course, a BMW i4 lease is an alternative and cost-effective option if you're considering BMW leasing.
