New Tesla Model Y: All the Highlights
Today, Tesla remains one of the leading manufacturers producing electric cars. Renowned for creating highly desirable vehicles with cutting edge technology, it’s easy to see why you might consider a Tesla as your new electric car. As Tesla continues to expand its electric line-up, the new Tesla Model Y is introduced with first deliveries expected in the UK early next year. How will this compare against other electric cars though, such as the Volkswagen ID.4 and Jaguar I-Pace? Well, here at GB Vehicle Leasing, we’ve decided to take a look at all the highlights on the Tesla Model Y including specs, electric range and design.
Tesla Model Y Design & Features
The new Tesla Model Y has an elegant design and dual motor AWD. In terms of size, this Tesla is bigger than the Tesla Model 3 and has up to seven-seats thanks to the optional third row. Externally, these two Tesla cars look similar with a grille-less front and sleek headlights. However, the Tesla Model Y has a slightly taller roof, typical of an SUV. Meanwhile, inside the Tesla Model Y, it features a large 15” touchscreen display for the infotainment system. Also, we really like the all-glass roof which makes the Tesla Model Y feel even more spacious.
As with all Tesla car models, the Tesla Model Y has a luxury feel to it thanks to high quality materials used throughout. The clean and sleek interior is perfect for this luxury electric car. Plus, it has an enormous storage capacity of over 2,100 litres. In five seat form, the boot space is a whopping 854 litres which is much bigger than key rival – the Volkswagen ID.4. Plus, the 117-litre storage under the bonnet is a real bonus. The new Tesla Model Y could particularly appeal to families looking to switch to a greener form of transport with reduced running costs and plenty of storage space.
Furthermore, it’s clear that safety has been made paramount when designing the Tesla Model Y. In this electric SUV, advanced safety tech has been incorporated, giving you peace of mind on all your journeys. This Tesla shares many of the same features as the Model 3, which is also highly regarded as a safe car.

Tesla Model Y Range, Charging & Performance
The Tesla Model Y will be available in two versions – the Model Y Long Range and Model Y Performance. In terms of range, it’s claimed the Tesla Model Y Long Range can achieve up to 315 miles (WLTP). This figure is very impressive, although it doesn’t quite match the maximum 360-mile range of a Tesla Model X. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y Performance has a reduced range of 298 miles, which is still rather good. As the name suggests, the Performance version is the quickest of the two. In fact, Tesla claims the Tesla Model Y Performance is capable of reaching 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds! Plus, this Tesla has a top speed of 155mph, compared to the max. 135mph of the Long Range version. As for charging the Tesla Model Y, this is easy and quick to do with more than 30,000 Superchargers currently available worldwide. In fact, it’s claimed the Tesla Model Y can recharge up to 150 miles in just 15 minutes using a Supercharger.
Tesla Model Y Price
The Tesla Model Y price starts from £54,990 – considerably less than the Jaguar I-Pace. This is for the entry-level Tesla Model Y Long Range, with deliveries estimated to start early next year. Key features for this spec include heated front and rear seats, premium audio and wireless smartphone charging. Alternatively, you could pick the Tesla Model Y Performance model, priced from £64,990. This version has a performance upgrade which includes an increased top speed, performance brakes and bigger wheels. The Tesla Model Y Performance is estimated for delivery from mid-2022. Also, for an addition cost, you could include Tesla’s enhanced autopilot and full self-driving capability. We feel the Tesla Model Y price is very reasonable for a premium electric car like this. Also, securing a Tesla Model Y lease deal through GB Vehicle Leasing is an incredibly cost-effective way to have your ideal electric car at an affordable rate.
If you’re looking for an upmarket electric car with a sophisticated design, then the Tesla Model Y could be a great contender.
