New BMW iX (2021): All the Highlights
As BMW continues to expand its electric line-up, first deliveries of the all-new BMW iX SUV are expected in the UK later this year. BMW’s new electric flagship will offer excellent performance and driving range. The entry-level BMW iX will be priced from £69,905 and will feature BMW’s advanced eDrive technology. Here we’ve decided to take a look at all the highlights on this BMW electric car, including specs, electric range and design.
BMW iX Range, Charging & Performance
The BMW iX will be available in two versions – the xDrive40 and xDrive50. In terms of range, it’s claimed the BMW iX xDrive50 can achieve up to 380 miles (WLTP) thanks to a powerful high-voltage battery. This figure is very impressive as it even exceeds the maximum 360-mile range of a Tesla Model X. Meanwhile, the BMW iX xDrive40 engine has a reduced range of 256 miles which is still rather good. BMW also claims the BMW iX xDrive50 is capable of reaching 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds thanks to its 523hp. As for charging the BMW iX, this is easy and quick to do with various options available. In fact, it’s claimed the BMW iX can achieve up to 80% charge in around 40 minutes when using a 200kW powerful charging station. That said, in around 2h30m, a range of 62 miles is still possible using a Wallbox (7.4kW).
Design & Features
The new BMW iX has an elegant design and is powered by advanced BMW eDrive technology. It’s sized similar to the BMW X5 and only has a five-seater option. The exterior of the BMW iX features a distinctive kidney grille on the front and appeals to the growing demand for SUVs. Inside, it offers a luxurious interior and you can stay connected on your journeys as the BMW iX features 5G as standard. Also, it comes with an array of driver assistance systems as standard to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable ride.
As with all BMW models, the BMW iX has a luxury feel to it thanks to high quality materials used throughout. Plus, it has a generous sized boot space of 500 litres. This is on par with key rival - the Mercedes EQC, although it isn’t the class leader for boot space. This BMW electric car could appeal to families looking to switch to a greener form of transport with reduced running costs.
BMW iX Price
Both the BMW iX xDrive40 and xDrive50 are available as either the Sport or M Sport trims. For the entry-level BMW iX xDrive40 Sport, you can expect pricing to start from £69,905 – considerably less than the Tesla Model X. That said, both the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Kona Electric have a significantly lower base price. As for the range-topper, the BMW iX xDrive50 M Sport is priced from a whopping £94,905!
If you’re looking for an upmarket electric car with a sophisticated design, then the BMW iX could be a great contender. At GB Vehicle Leasing, we expect this BMW electric car to attract a lot of attention, however the hefty price tag could be a real drawback for some. Those looking for a cheaper alternative EV might consider leasing the Ford Mustang Mach-E instead. Not sure if an electric car is right for you though?
