MG HS Review
Rivalling the likes of the Skoda Karoq, the MG HS is a family SUV that comes well equipped. As MG Motor’s largest SUV, the MG HS is made for all your family journeys thanks to the spacious interior. It might not have as much brand kudos nationwide as other rivals, but don’t let this put you off. We feel the MG HS represents excellent value for money and is worth considering. Read our full MG HS review to find out more details.
MG HS Design
Firstly, the MG HS SUV is similar in style to the MG ZS, although it’s bigger in size. It has a striking design thanks to its large headlights and chrome grille on the front. What particularly stands out to us about this car is the spacious interior with comfortable seating, allowing for an excellent driving experience. There’s decent head and legroom throughout this MG car, plus there’s a 463-litre boot capacity. Although this doesn’t quite match the Skoda Karoq, it should still offer ample luggage space for most journeys. Also, the high-quality materials used in this MG car, give it a luxury feel without costing a fortune.
In terms of in-car entertainment, this MG car has a standard 10.1” infotainment display with Bluetooth® connection and DAB Audio, as well as Android AutoTM and Apple CarPlayTM connectivity. If you select the MG HS Exclusive, the standard 4-speaker audio system is upgraded to a 6-speaker audio system with 3D sound. Furthermore, the MG HS comes with MG Pilot as standard, which includes advanced driver assistance features like Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Intelligent High Beam Assist. As for safety, the MG HS has an excellent range of safety features. During 2019 testing, this MG car received a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, which included an impressive score of 92 per cent in its adult occupancy NCAP assessment. Some of the key safety features on the MG HS include Hill Launch Assist, Hill Descent Control and Cornering Brake Control.

MG HS Performance
Let’s also review the performance of the MG HS. This MG car has a 162hp 1.5-litre petrol engine, available with either a 6-speed Manual or 7-speed Auto gearbox. In terms of WLTP combined MPG figures, the manual provides 37.9mpg, while the auto is slightly lower at 36.6mpg. As well, the MG HS is claimed to achieve 0—60 mph in 9.6 seconds and has a top speed of 118mph. There’s no denying this MG car isn’t the quickest, nor is it the most economical. That said, it’s worth remembering that the MG HS is more of a family car than a performance car. Also, this MG car has a useful maximum braked towing capacity of 1,750kg, meaning it’s capable of towing a trailer or small caravan. As for the overall driving experience, we feel the MG HS offers good handling, as well as being easy to drive. Typical of an SUV, a MG HS lease offers a high driving position meaning good visibility when driving.
Alternatively, take a look at the MG HS Plug-in Hybrid. Available in both the Excite and Exclusive trims, pricing for this MG PHEV starts from £30,959. This is slightly more expensive than its key rival – the Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid, although not by much. Also, the MG HS PHEV has an electric-only range of 32-miles and offers low CO2 emissions of 43g/km. With 258 bhp, it can achieve 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds which is reasonable for a car of this kind. If you're looking for a greener form of transport but don't think a full electric car is right for you, then the MG HS Plug-in Hybrid could be an ideal lease option.

MG HS Price & Specifications
Another point to consider when selecting your car is the specification you desire. The MG HS is available as either the excite or exclusive model. Pricing starts from £22,095 for the entry-level MG HS Excite trim. Key features of this MG car include auto headlights, leather steering wheel, keyless entry and rear parking camera. Alternatively, you could upgrade to the Exclusive trim level, which starts from £24,595. This features additional extras such as heated front seats, a panoramic sky roof and dual zone air conditioning. For the extra £2,500, we feel the MG HS Exclusive is worth considering for the added comfort and convenience. As the standard MG New Vehicle Warranty, the MG HS comes with a 7-year factory warranty for peace of mind. Plus, this MG car has five colour options to choose from. However, it’s worth noting that Metallic paint is available at an added cost of £545 inc. VAT.
Overall, we think the MG HS is excellent and deserves a rating of 4/5 stars from GB Vehicle Leasing. With prices starting from £22,095, this car is MG’s biggest model to date and comes with an excellent range of standard features. MG Motor is an iconic Automotive Company which is rapidly expanding and smashing its own sales records.
