Mazda Celebrates 100 Years
This year Mazda is celebrating a landmark birthday as the brand has been around for a whole century. To celebrate this, we have decided to write a blog about some of the key highlights for this brand.
The Beginning of Mazda
Founded in Hiroshima in 1920, Mazda, first known as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. Ltd, started as a manufacturer of cork products. It wasn’t until 1931 that they started producing vehicles, the first being the Madza-Go autorickshaw. In the coming years, production slowed largely due to world War Two. However, fast-forward to 1960, The first passenger car by Mazda was launched. It was a two-door, four-seater coupe called the R360 Coupe and was priced at only 300,000 yen (around £2,100 today). By 1963, Mazda had produced over 1 million vehicles in total and since then Mazda has become known for producing affordable, quality-performance vehicles.
Mazda 100 Years Special Editions
Exciting news! Mazda are celebrating 100 years with special edition models. These are available for all major models in the Mazda lineup and will be introduced in stages to markets around the world. Prices for the special editions range from £20,995 to £33,995 depending on the model. However, car enthusiasts will be lucky to get one of these cars though as examples of these will be limited. In fact, for the UK there will only be five examples each of the 2, 6 and CX-5 and 100 examples each of the MX-5, CX-30 and 3.
The Electric Mazda MX-30
Exciting news from Mazda continues as they've revealed details about the brand's first all-electric car. The First Edition model of The Electric Mazda MX-30 is now available to pre-order with deliveries beginning early next year and then the standard car expected later in 2021. Priced from £27,495 (including Plug-in Car grant), this electric SUV offers 124 miles of range and takes only 36 minutes for 80% rapid charge. Furthermore, it comes with an 8 years battery warranty (or 100,000 miles) which gives the customer peace of mind. We expect this EV will become very popular, especially as the demand for EVs continues to increase.
