Our Handy Vehicle Checklist For Long Road Trips
Do you have any exciting plans for a lovely day out in the near future? Maybe you’re going to the beach with your family or braving the rides at a theme park. Whatever it is, I’m sure you’ll just want to arrive as quick but safe as possible so you can make the most of your day. However, we all know that cars can sometimes be unpredictable. Therefore, we’ve put together a handy checklist to ensure your car is in tip top shape for your journey.
Before you start your journey, you should:
Ensure your car is in a good condition to drive. This includes checking your car’s tyres, lights, water levels and engine oil before setting off. These simple checks should be carried out before any long journey. If you're unsure about how to carry out any of these checks, then read your vehicle owner's manual or visit your local garage for some advice.
Check your fuel level to ensure you have enough for the journey. For long journeys, don’t forget to take your card or some cash in case you need to refill.
Ensure you have breakdown cover for your car just in case you unfortunately break down. After all nobody wants their day completely ruined by being stuck on their journey.
Consider factors such as road conditions, the weather and the condition of your car’s brakes as these can affect (increase) your braking distance.
Make sure everyone in the car is wearing their seatbelt before you start driving. This might seem obvious but it’s easy to forget if you get distracted.
Plan your journey so you can get there as quick and easy as possible. Having a map or sat nav in your car can be useful, especially if you're unfamiliar with your journey.
If you have an electric vehicle, you might find the Zap-Map App handy to download on your mobile phone.
