Genesis G80 Review
As demand for SUVs continues to surge, less saloon cars are appearing on our roads. That said, saloons are one of the most established types of cars and remain a suitable option for many drivers. In particular, we’ve decided to take a look at the Genesis G80 and why this could be the ideal saloon for you. But first, let’s define a saloon car.
What is a saloon car?
Saloon cars, also known as a sedan, have been around since the 1910s. Typically, a saloon car features a closed boot separate from the car body part where the driver and passengers sit. The boot opening of a saloon is usually small, unlike with a hatchback. Generally, a saloon car will offer engaging handling, as well as strong performance and good fuel economy. Key examples include the Jaguar XE Saloon and the popular Audi A3 Saloon.

Genesis G80 Saloon
The Genesis G80 is an executive saloon combining luxury, style and comfort. We feel the Genesis G80 has been beautifully designed to look elegant and classy. Externally, the G80 features sleek lines, along with the Crest Grille and Quad Lamps, typical of the Genesis identity. Like the bigger Genesis GV80, the G80 features a 14.5" touchscreen on the dashboard for the infotainment system. Also, the electric front seats allow for a comfortable ride. Meanwhile, the decent boot space is on par with the BMW 5 Series.
Furthermore, it’s clear that safety has been made paramount when designing the Genesis G80. This saloon car comes with an array of innovative safety features, such as Evasive steering assist, Lane keep assist, a 10-airbag system and Driver attention alert. Plus, during independent crash-testing, the Genesis G80 achieved a full Euro NCAP Safety Rating of five stars, which included an excellent score of 91 per cent in its adult occupancy NCAP assessment and safety assist.

Genesis G80 Price
The Genesis G80 price starts from £37,460 for the 2.2l diesel option and £43,150 for the 2.5l petrol one. This is considerably more expensive than the equivalent Jaguar XE Saloon or Audi A3 Saloon. In terms of trim levels, the Genesis G80 is available as either the premium or luxury version – the latter priced from £42,260. If you’re looking for a company car and consider company car tax, then the Genesis G80 is unlikely to be top of your list. High CO2 emissions means you can expect to pay high rates in benefit-in-kind tax (BIK).
Our Verdict
We feel the Genesis G80 deserves a rating of 3/5 stars from GB Vehicle Leasing. We particularly like the exterior design of this executive saloon. Although, this Genesis car is considerably more expensive than key rivals which is disappointing. In particular, the Audi A3 Saloon is a strong rival and offers better value for money. However, the Genesis G80 is still worth considering if you’d prefer something a little different to an Audi or Jaguar saloon.
