Survey shows EV switchers don’t regret their decision
A recent Zap-Map poll shows that from their community of EV drivers, 91% wouldn’t consider trading their EV for a conventional vehicle. It appears many motorists like driving an environmentally friendly car once they have experienced driving an EV for themselves. Of the 2,000 poll respondents, only 1% felt they missed driving a conventional vehicle and would revert back to their previous car if possible. These figures are very positive as drivers are being encouraged to opt for low emissions vehicles, which in turn will help to improve the country’s air quality and reduce CO2 emissions from road transport.
Last year the Automotive Industry saw UK car sales hit the lowest level for 28 years. The Covid-19 lockdowns meant the industry was hit hard, especially during the first lockdown from March-June 2020. But despite this, sales of electric cars and plug-in hybrids continued to increase to a record-breaking high. This could be largely due to new EV models being added to the market, as well as government incentives to opt for a low emission vehicle. This included Benefit in Kind tax on electric cars being 0% in the 2020/21 financial year, which resulted in a rise of electric company cars.
Electric cars are not only great for the environment, but they’re also great for your wallet too. Combine this with the cutting-edge technology that companies like Tesla are implementing into their vehicles and it’s easy to see why electric cars are becoming so appealing. Despite this, it's clear that some drivers are still holding back due to EVs being higher priced compared to a petrol or diesel equivalent. In order to combat this, car manufacturers are gradually introducing more affordable electric cars. Also, when choosing your new car, it’s important to consider all lifetime costs of owning a car, as for example, electric cars are typically cheaper to service and maintain than combustion-engined cars.
At GB Vehicle Leasing, we have seen a massive increase in the number of EV leasing enquiries and orders over the past 12 months. During this time, new electric cars have become available, meaning there’s now a great range of differing sizes, shapes and specifications of electric cars to choose from. We expect this to continue as manufacturer’s expand their range further. Leasing an electric car is also becoming popular as we have some very attractive electric car lease deals on a wide range of electric cars. Generally electric cars are more expensive to buy than an equivalent petrol or diesel car. However, leasing offers exclusive use of the car for a set period at a fixed monthly price instead of paying the full purchase price of the car. This in turn helps to make EVs more affordable for motorists, along with the additional savings of an EV.

Dave Fitton, our Sales Director at GB Vehicle Leasing, commented;
“The increase in electric car enquiries shows more people are beginning to see the benefits to themselves and to the wider environment of opting for an electric vehicle. At GB Vehicle Leasing, our leasing consultants are well trained to answer any questions clients have about electric cars, in order for them to make an informed decision about their new vehicle.
As a proud driver of an electric car, I’m very glad I made the switch from a conventional vehicle. As a first time EV driver, I’ve been driving a Nissan Leaf for over a year now and have no plans to switch cars anytime soon.
Electric vehicle sales are rapidly rising, and we expect this to continue. We have some amazing electric car lease deals and would be pleased assist you with any future electric car leasing queries you may have.”
