The Award Winning Volvo XC40
First launched in 2017, the Volvo XC40 is a well-built, compact SUV with plenty of appeal. This Volvo car has received numerous awards since launch, including What Car? Family SUV of the Year 2021 for the Volvo XC40 T3 R-Design auto. Despite increasing competition in its class, the XC40 is Volvo’s best-selling model in the UK. So, what makes this a highly desirable SUV? Read our full Volvo XC40 review below to find out.

Firstly, the Volvo XC40 is a popular lease car due to its great choice of engine options. This allows drivers the option to choose a fuel type that is most suited to their lifestyle and purpose for driving the car. In particular, the Volvo XC40 163hp T3 engines prove popular and are available as either automatic or manual. If you select the Volvo XC40 T3 R-Design auto, it has a fuel consumption figure of 38.7mpg combined and CO2 emissions are 166g/km. However, if you’d prefer a fully electric car, the Volvo’s XC40 Recharge Pure Electric which emits 0g/km and is priced from £43,550 (OTR), is definitely worth considering! Select either a 69kWh battery option with a single motor producing 228bhp, or the 78kWh battery with two motors and 402bhp. With an electric range of over 200 miles and quick charging options, the Volvo XC40 Recharge is a great alternative electric car to the Mercedes EQA or BMW iX3.
The Volvo XC40 is Volvo's smallest SUV and an alternative to both the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA. In terms of the interior, we think the Volvo XC40 is beautifully designed and ingenious storage space is an excellent addition. The 430 litres boot space is slightly smaller than rival SUVs, however, it’s still a spacious 5-seater. Furthermore, the XC40’s layout is well-designed, and the seats offer optimum comfort for all your family trips. As for the infotainment system, it's clear that advanced technology has been incorporated into the design of the Volvo XC40. In particular, stay connected on your journey as this model is fully compatible with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay.

As expected with a Volvo car, the Volvo XC40 comes with exceptional safety and driver assist features which particularly makes it an appealing family car. These features include Volvo Cars’ Pilot Assist system, Cross Traffic alert with brake support and the 360-degree camera, just to mention a few. During independent crash-testing, the Volvo XC40 achieved a maximum Euro NCAP Safety Rating of five stars, which included an excellent score of 97 per cent in its adult occupancy NCAP assessment.
Overall, we think this compact SUV is fantastic and deserves a rating of 4.5/5 stars from GB Vehicle Leasing. With on-the-road (OTR) prices starting from £26,355 for the base model, this car comes with an excellent range of standard features. As well, it’s great to see that Volvo has now introduced a fully electric Volvo XC40. However, if you require a bigger boot space, you might prefer the BMW X1 or the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
