Celebrating 25 Years of The Porsche Boxster
This year, Porsche is celebrating 25 years of the incredible Porsche Boxster. This two-seater roadster is both iconic and unmistakable, demonstrating Porsche’s production at its finest. To celebrate this, let’s take a look at the history of this Porsche model. What makes this such a desirable car to drive?
The Beginning of The Porsche Boxster
Back in 1996 when the Porsche Boxster was introduced, it was nicknamed the 'poor man's Porsche'. As a cheaper alternative to the Porsche Carrera, the Boxster was considered a more cost-effective option. Drivers felt they could get a great deal for such a cool, sleek and powerful Porsche.
The first-generation Boxster (the 986) offered a fun car with an excellent build quality. It had 201 horsepower and featured a 2.5-litre flat six-cylinder engine. This introduction helped Porsche to make a successful comeback from declining sales figures in the early 1990s. Porsche had spotted a gap in the market for an affordable two-seater roadster. Its key rival was the BMW Z3 and within 7 years, over 120,000 units had been sold. Then in 2004, the second-generation Boxster was revealed as a refined version of the original. This offered refined styling such as cooling vents and better headlights. Also, it reportedly offered better handling and fuel economy than the previous model.
Why choose the Porsche 718 Boxster?
The Porsche 718 Boxster is well-built and offers the high quality expected from a Porsche car. From its distinctive design to its luxury feel, this is unmistakably a Porsche car. The 718 badge has been around since 2016 and we feel it deserves being considered as an exceptional sports car. We particularly like the great handling and smooth ride of this Porsche car, which allows for a thrilling driving experience. Regardless of which trim level you choose, the sports seats make for a comfort ride.
Furthermore, this iconic car is known for its excellent performance. In fact, it’s claimed the Porsche 718 Boxster has a top speed of 170mph and offers 300 PS. Combine this with the ability to achieve 0-62mph in just 5.1 seconds, and you can expect nothing less than quality engine options. Priced from £48,400 (Incl. VAT), there’s no denying this Porsche is a great all-rounder.
Boxster 25 Years
To celebrate this excellent milestone, Porsche decided to introduce a limited-run variant of the Porsche Boxster. Known as the Boxster 25 Years, this is based on the GTS 4.0 and offers exceptional style. Although, with sales limited to 1,250 units worldwide, this variant has quickly sold out. We’re not surprised though! This exceptional sports car has a claimed top speed of 182mph, 400 PS, rapid acceleration and pricing started from £73,820 (Incl. VAT).
