10 Year Challenge: Car Brands Edition
A lot can change over a 10 year period and this certainly applies within the motoring industry. With the constant need to impress potential consumers, car brands regularly introduce new models to their range and these often feature the latest high-quality tech. A current craze called ‘The 10 Year Challenge’ has hit social media therefore we want to delve into the history of some famous car brands to create our own 10 Year Challenge: Car Brands Edition.
BMW
10 Year Challenge: BMW
Towards the end of 2009, BMW introduced the BMW X1 and a year later a bigger, second generation X3 was released. 2013 was an excellent year for this luxury car brand as BMW sold more vehicles in 2013 than any year prior to this in the company’s history. Then in 2016, this fantastic German car brand celebrated its 100-year anniversary. Also, last year BMW celebrated further success as the brand received three wins at the Fleet News Awards 2018. This year the brand will release even more cars including the new 2019 BMW 1 Series.
Ford
10 Year Challenge: Ford
Back in 2009, Ford began to offer its turbocharged EcoBoost line of engines. Then in 2014 one of Ford’s best-known cars, The Ford Mustang celebrated its 50th anniversary. Another major development for this fantastic car brand was the creation of Ford Smart Mobility, LLC in 2016. Not long after in 2017, Jim Hackett became the CEO of Ford which he continues to be at present. Then last year Ford released their new fourth-generation Ford Focus to celebrate the Focus’s 20th anniversary. Ford has further plans to expand their range this year, for example with the arrival of the 2019 Ford Mondeo.
MINI
10 Year Challenge: MINI
In 2009, MINI introduced the second generation MINI Cabrio which is both stylish and practical. Then in 2010 a major development occurred for MINI as this iconic brand revealed a brand-new type of MINI. This was the MINI Countryman which has shown to be successful venture for the brand. A year later, The Cooper SD variant was added to the range as a diesel option for customers. Exciting news! This year, the Mini 60 Years Edition car will go on sale in the UK to celebrate MINI’s landmark 60th birthday.There will only be 500 of these cars produced which will exclusively be sold in Britain.
Porsche
10 Year Challenge: Porsche
In 2009, the new Porsche museum was opened next to the Porsche headquarters in Zuffenhausen. In the same year, the Porsche Panamera debuted which combined Sports Car technology, a luxurious design and outstanding performance. Then in 2013, The Porsche 918 Spyder set a Nürburgring lap record. Also, 2014 was another exciting year for this premium brand as they introduced The Porsche Macan. Then in 2017, Porsche drivers won the Le Mans 24 Hours for the third year in a row. It was another amazing achievement for this prestige car brand. This year, Porsche’s first full-electric sports car is reportedly going to be shown at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mercedes-Benz
10 Year Challenge: Mercedes
Back in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes revealed the Mercedes E-Class Coupe which was very stylish and comfortable. In 2013 Mercedes started selling its first generation CLA-Class. Also, at the Paris Motor Show in 2016, Mercedes revealed its Generation EQ concept car which was exciting for many car enthusiasts. Then in 2018, Mercedes opened another battery factory to expand its electric cars production effort. This year even more Mercedes vehicles will be available on the market including the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe. This latest model can achieve 0-62mph in 3.2sec!
Of course, we’ve only mentioned some of the key highlights over the last 10 years for these well-known car brands.However, it still clearly shows that they are regularly expanding and developing within the industry. What do you think the next 10 years will hold for them?
