What is a maintenance contract?

When thinking about your new car lease it is easy to think you’ll save money by NOT opting for a maintenance contract as it will usually increase your monthly rental or payment.

What you really need to think about is the whole life cost of the maintenance and servicing of your new vehicle...

I already get manufacturer’s warranty with my new car so why would I need ‘maintenance’?

The majority of manufacturer’s warranties last for 3 years (although some can last up to five years) and may have mileage limits applied.

Warranties don’t usually cover normal wear and tear, nor do they cover routine servicing.

With a maintenance package you get peace of mind knowing that your costs are budgeted for across the term of your contract.

So, if the length of your contract is over 3 years and your manufacturer's warranty runs out at year 3, you will at least be covered with a maintenance package.

Most maintenance packages cover the following:

  • All scheduled servicing and maintenance routines
  • Mechanical and electrical repairs/replacements
  • Replacement of parts due to wear and tear, including tyres
  • MOT tests (from year 3 onwards)

Some maintenance packages also include:

  • Breakdowns
  • Replacement vehicle
  • European roadside recovery
  • Replacement glass (rechargeable)
  • Motoring offence management / foreign travel documentation service (additional fee may apply)

How do I work out whether or not I'd be better off adding maintenance to my contract?

We can help with this.

All you need to do is...

  • Work out the individual cost of everything you might need over the length of your contract (replacement tyres, servicing, etc);
  • Add it all together;
  • Find out how much it would cost to add a maintenance package on to your contract.

Whichever works out cheapest is usually the way to go!
